Shaxi: a slow day in a Tea Horse Road town

Give yourself time for village lanes, a café stop and life along the river in this old trading town.

Getting there and back: The selected single-town product picks up privately near Dali Old Town for Shaxi. Trip.com 68319837 lists about 2 hours from Dali Old Town/Xiaguan to Shaxi: a rough driving reference, not every hotel's guarantee. The Shaxi-only product returns to Dali without changing hotels; this is not a Dali–Shaxi–Lijiang transfer.

Time and walking: Selected product 103290045 lists 8 hours; the conflicting heading of another combined tour is not used. One visitor covered the town in about 2 hours; several found it worth more time for cafes and the river. Walking through old-town lanes and by the river; the long Shibaoshan walk is not included. Cafes/teahouses offer rests; old-town walking remains.

Who it suits: Suits travellers willing to accept longer drives for a slower pace, rather than many checklist sights. Less suitable for a very short gap or if many major sights/nightlife are needed for enjoyment. A Dali day return does not automatically include sunrise/morning mist. This is Yunnan Shaxi, not Shaxi in Taicang, Jiangsu. Visitors enjoy slow walking, cafes and everyday riverside life.

Arrange the date and time with the provider before putting this in your day.
