Gaochun: old-street snacks and a slower countryside day

Move between a small old street and the countryside for a gentler day beyond central Nanjing.

Getting there and back: The reviewed submission describes self-driving from Nanjing; a local operator describes a local day tour. The submission gives a roughly 1–1.5-hour Nanjing–Gaochun drive, as a road-segment reference. The same self-drive account returns to the original Nanjing area in the evening.

Time and walking: The operator combines old street, local lunch and afternoon Yaxi into a day. The Nanjing self-drive report also returns the same day, but its afternoon visits Jurong/Lishui. Allow a full day without claiming a supported Nanjing–Gaochun–Yaxi door-to-door hour total. The submission suggests about 2 hours for the main street, not the whole outing. Walk, eat and browse on stone paving and stairs; further afternoon strolling is optional. The submission explicitly mentions stone paving or steps in the old town.

Tickets and timing: The author notes little lane shade and heat-absorbing stone in summer; this is not a forecast.

Who it suits: Suits snacks, wooden old-street houses and countryside pace, with a willingness to drive out. Less suitable if you only want a grand ancient-city avenue or strongly dislike long transport. Keep expectations of the main street's size modest. Folk performances/crab carnivals on an old operator page are not adopted as this year's sessions. Small old-street eating/strolling and Gaochun countryside can make a slower day different from central Nanjing. Both use a full day: Gaochun emphasises small streets, lunch and optional countryside; compare Yangzhou for lake gardens, temples and a complete charter. Its 8 hours cannot be copied to Gaochun.
