Zhangzhou old town by train

Swap Xiamen's coast for temple-side street life, old lanes and a day shaped around local snacks.

Getting there and back: From Xiamen Railway Station, take a high-speed train to Zhangzhou Station, then a ride-hailing car to the old town. The author's train leg took about 30 minutes; hotel–station and Zhangzhou station–old town times are not itemised. The author's 08:45/09:16 outbound examples are not current first trains. Ride-hailing car back to Zhangzhou Station, then train to Xiamen North. Check your hotel's location: the return station differs. The author's 16:57/17:17 return examples are not current last trains; book for your actual travel date.

Time and walking: The author travelled out in the morning and back towards evening; the old town can take 3–5 hours, plus hotel transfers. The platform suggests 3–5 hours on site. Mostly old-town lane walking; precise distance/stair totals are not given.

Who it suits: Suits travellers who want time for traditional neighbourhoods and local food. Leaving from Xiamen Station and returning to Xiamen North may not suit the same hotel. The 30-minute train is not the full journey. Old streets, everyday temple-side life and local snacks offer a half to full day different from Xiamen's seaside.
