How do I find the right place when English map searches fail?

By the MyChinaTrip team · checked 26 sept 2026

Search the place’s Chinese name and full address, then confirm the entrance you need. An English name can lead to the right attraction but still leave you at the wrong gate, station or hotel branch.

您好,我要去这里。这是中文名称和地址。请问这个预约需要从哪个入口进去?如果开车,应该在哪个门下车最方便?谢谢!

Meaning: Here are the Chinese name and address. Which entrance does this booking use, and where should a car drop me off?

At a glance

  • A Chinese station suffix is part of its identity: MTR’s 12306 guide distinguishes stations such as Futian and Shenzhenbei within the same city. [1]
  • The Palace Museum’s foreign-passport manual ticket check is at the Meridian Gate, its south entrance. [2]
  • Apple Maps directions start from a selected place and transport mode; use the place card and route rather than only a search-result name. [3]
  • Save three things for a driver: the Chinese place name, full street address and required entrance or meeting point.

What to do next

  1. Before leaving the hotel, copy the Chinese name and address from the actual booking or operator’s official page. For a chain hotel or restaurant, include the branch. For a station, preserve every directional suffix in the ticket.
  2. Paste the Chinese name into the map and compare the resulting district, address and nearby landmarks with the booking. Do not choose a result only because its English translation sounds right.
  3. Identify the entrance for your task. A ticketed attraction may have a designated entry gate, a hotel may have a vehicle entrance on another street, and a station may distinguish arrivals from departures. Ask the operator or reception to confirm that entrance on the map.
  4. Choose the correct transport mode and inspect the last part of the route. Look for a river, expressway, railway barrier, elevated road or large compound that prevents the straight-line approach suggested by the pin.
  5. Save the place card, Chinese address and a screenshot of the final approach offline. If taking a taxi, show the text and entrance together rather than asking the driver to translate a foreign booking name.
  6. When close, compare the visible signs with the saved name and ask staff if the entrance is unclear. Stop safely before changing navigation; do not keep walking into a restricted gate simply because the pin is inside the compound.

If your situation is different

The English search produces several places: use the booking’s district and Chinese name to identify the branch. Compare the phone number or address where available, then save the correct result for the rest of the trip.

You only have a photo or social-media caption: treat the location as unconfirmed until the place name and access point match. Use visible signs and the original post’s context to establish the actual site before booking a long journey.

A map asks you to register before saving: keep the address and screenshots in ordinary notes and use a working navigation alternative. You can still prepare the destination without completing every account feature.

The route says you have arrived but the entrance is missing: inspect the perimeter and the operator’s entry instructions. Ask nearby staff to point to the named entrance, especially at museums, parks and large railway stations.

Common mistakes

  • Dropping South, North or another station suffix: match the full ticketed name so the ride ends at the correct station.
  • Using the centre of a park as the taxi destination: choose the gate where visitors actually enter.
  • Assuming two English translations mean two different places: compare the Chinese name and address before changing plans.
  • Keeping only a map link that needs a connection: save readable address text and the last part of the route offline.

Quick questions

What should I show a taxi driver?

The Chinese name, complete address and entrance or meeting-point note from your actual booking.

Should I trust the walking time from a pin?

Inspect the route to the usable entrance, including crossings, stairs and access restrictions. Add time when the last approach is unfamiliar.

What if I cannot read the sign?

Show the Chinese text you saved and ask whether this is the correct entrance. Keep the booking or ticket available so staff can see your intended visit.
