How do I get from Xi’an to the Terracotta Warriors?

By the MyChinaTrip team · checked 11 oct 2026

Take the metro to Huaqingchi on Line 9, then a local bus to the Terracotta Warriors; choose a direct car if fewer transfers matter more than cost. Book museum admission first and plan the return separately from the free shuttle between the museum’s two sites.

请问这辆车到秦始皇兵马俑博物馆吗?我应该在哪一站下车?回程在哪里上车?

Does this bus go to the Terracotta Warriors Museum? Which stop should I use, and where do I board for the return?

At a glance

  • The museum’s transport page names Fangzhicheng (纺织城) as the interchange onto Line 9, then Huaqingchi (华清池) for the bus connection. [1]
  • For the railway-station approaches, the museum lists Lintong Tourist 613 to Qinyongcun (秦俑村), or Lintong 602 to Qinbingmayong (秦兵马俑). Its airport section uses a different stop label; show the museum name to the driver. [1]
  • The attraction comprises the Terracotta Warriors Museum and Lishan Garden (丽山园), with a free shuttle between them. That shuttle is a local site transfer, not transport back to central Xi’an. [2]
  • Keep these three pins separate: your hotel, 秦始皇兵马俑博物馆, and the agreed return pickup. A map result for the wider mausoleum area may lead to the other site.

How to do it

  1. Reserve admission through the museum’s website or its linked official WeChat accounts before choosing a departure. Save the reservation, original booking passport and Chinese museum name together. Museum admission and a bus or car booking are two separate arrangements.
  2. From the Bell Tower area, use the metro route to Beidajie (北大街), change to Line 1 toward Fangzhicheng, then take Line 9 toward Qinlingxi and leave at Huaqingchi. The museum’s published northern-station route uses this same Beidajie–Fangzhicheng–Huaqingchi chain.
  3. At Huaqingchi, use Exit C and find the signed bus stop. Before boarding 613 or 602, show 秦始皇兵马俑博物馆 and ask which stop serves its visitor entrance. Keep the stop name on your phone so you can recognise it without relying on an English announcement.
  4. For a direct car, set the destination to the Warriors Museum visitor entrance and agree whether the driver waits or leaves. For a private transfer, get the pickup location, waiting allowance and return arrangement in writing; a museum guide is a separate service.
  5. Before entering, save the return bus stop or car pickup pin. If you also visit Lishan Garden, take the museum shuttle and return to the agreed departure point. Keep the evening flexible rather than putting a train departure immediately after sightseeing.

If your situation is different

With children, large bags or limited walking comfort, take a direct car and ask about the final walk from drop-off to admission. Fewer transfers are the useful advantage; do not assume the vehicle can drive to the exhibition halls.

If arriving at Xi’an North, follow the museum’s Line 2 connection via Beidajie. If arriving at Xi’an railway station, its route uses Line 4 to Wulukou (五路口), then Line 1. Read the station name on your actual ticket before setting the route.

If you want Huaqing Palace too, keep it as an optional second visit after measuring your museum time. Sharing a metro-stop name does not mean the two attractions share admission or that a full combined day fits before an onward train.

Common mistakes

  • Getting off at Qinlingxi simply because it is the end of Line 9. The museum’s published public-transport connection is at Huaqingchi; follow the route to the visitor entrance.
  • Treating an advertised shuttle as a complete round trip. Ask for both departure points and the return arrangement before paying; a one-way ride leaves the journey home to you.
  • Confusing the free Lishan Garden shuttle with a city bus. Keep the museum-site transfer and the Xi’an return as separate legs, each with its own destination.

Quick questions

Does the metro reach the museum gate?

No. The published route needs a bus connection after Huaqingchi; use a direct car if you want to remove that transfer.

Which Chinese destination should I show?

秦始皇兵马俑博物馆. Specify the visitor entrance rather than only the broad mausoleum area.

Can I use a direct car one way?

Yes as a planning choice, but arrange the return before you enter. It need not be the same vehicle.

Should I buy admission after arriving?

Reserve before travelling out. That protects the museum visit and keeps the transport decision tied to an actual admission date.
